Taking the representative atmospheric aerosol compound ferric citrate (III) as the model molecule, they used the iron oxidation state as a photochemical marker to detect a single particle containing ferric citrate (III). Based on these results, they predicted that the photochemical reaction rate of most types of atmospheric aerosol particles would be increased by two to three times.
