Skyrmions are sometimes described as magnetic vortices Different from the ferromagnetic state in traditional magnets such as compass and refrigerator magnet, the skyrmion state is very special: the direction of magnetization does not point to the same direction everywhere in the material, but is best described as a kind of rotating magnetism
Laser induced skyrmion nucleation
Skyrmions is interested in basic research and industry because they can be used to make more compact computer memory. However, this is easier said than done. Using skyrmions for technical purposes requires efficient writing, erasing and manipulation of particles with high spatial accuracy on a short time scale
In a new study published in npj computing materials, researchers Claudio verdozzi and Emil VI ñ from Lund University; as Boströ M and Max ·, Hamburg, Germany; Angel Rubio, a researcher at the Planck Institute for the structure and dynamics of matter, has found a new method
Balance magnetism
Claudio verdozzi, a physics researcher at Lund University, said: “ In our research, we theoretically proved how to meet one of the requirements, that is, how to use laser pulses to create magnetic skyrmions on an ultrashort time scale”。
The research team has identified a microscopic mechanism that can explain an experimental scheme that has proved very useful for creating strange skyrmions. Researchers used femtosecond laser pulses &mdash— Light pulse with duration of one millionth of a second &mdash— It proves that it is possible to produce skyrmions at an ultra fast speed
Parameter dependence of skyrmion excitation
Claudio verdozzi said: “ Our results are very relevant to the manufacture of more energy-saving technical components. Research shows that light can manipulate local magnetic excitation in a very short time”
This new discovery can lead to many applications, including quantum technology &mdash— Quantum mechanical properties are used to solve the field of extreme advanced computing that cannot be handled by traditional computers. It is also believed that magnetic excitations such as skyrmions and so-called spin waves can help reduce the energy consumption of technical components, thus helping to achieve future climate goals
Claudio verdozz concluded: “ Because of its technical potential, skyrmions has attracted much attention in theoretical and experimental research. In addition, their strange magnetic patterns are conceptually and mathematically attractive, so they are very interesting”
